Engineer-in-Chief of Canton Kowloon Railway Chinese Section reports Railway must be closed down at the end of present month unless further funds forthcoming and requests instructions. stop. No funds available payment

of staff. stop. Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation

allowing further overdraft $20,000 for payment of workmen only for November and will only permit further overdraft on authority of the British & Chinese Corporation. atop.

If the Railway is closed down Military will probably seize

it for transportation of troops and further depreciation will ensue. stop. $20,000 per month is required to retain

workmen.
